Northern shore beaches

Plum bay A
beautiful, secluded beach, ,
well known among surfers, stretching from
la Pointe Blanche des Canonniers to the rocks
at Pointe Plum, which are a beautiful snorkeling
site. Baie
rouge Very popular,
close to Marigot, it has food facilities.
Good swimmers can easely reach a smaller,
more intimate beach, hidden at the cliff's
foot at it Eastern end.Little
bay a small, accessible
by the road to Devil's Hole. A wild, secluded
site, facing Marigot bay. Baie
nettlé , it is
a long sand strip at the western end of the
bay of Marigot. It has been subdivided into
small "private" beaches by the
hotel and restaurant owners, on the sea side
as well as along Simpson's bay lagoon. Baie
de la potence a beach
in town, of little interest,bordering the
sea front road.Watch
out for current. Plage
des amoureux aply named.
Nested in the rocky coast of Pointe Arago,
accessible y the road to the commercial harbour
or from Friar's Bay. a few metres of sand,
for the most confidential bay on the island!Friar's
bay ,a well protected
beach, with restaurants. A family beach in
the daytime, it turns into a meeting place
for night owls attending Kali's famous "Full
Moon Parties"Happy
bay, the perfect
embodiment of a small tropical paradise,
accessed by a path starting at the northern
end of Friar's Bay(well worth the required
10 minute's walk). Baie
de grand-case , a long
beach, lined by the terraces of most prestigious
restaurants on the island and the famous
small "lolos"(creole restaurants). Petite
plage , at the end of
the bay of grand-Case, in front of Rocher
creole, better titted for swimming than the
former. Anse
marcel , a beautiful
beach, set in the magnificent environment
of the port Lonvilliers, well protected from
the winds and swell. Petites
cayes , assuredly one
of the most beautiful beaches on the island
for nature and solitude lovers. In thin crescent
of the white sand set in he wild reffs of Pointe
des Froussards. A 25 minutes walk from Cul-de-Sac
on an easy coastal path. Grandes
cayes , near Cul-de-Sac,
it is the ideal site for traditional Saint-Martin
family picnics.
Pinel
Island, thissmall
island, at the heart of the nature
preserve, offers two beaches, one
of which is often deserted, and a
restaurant. Suttle boats are available
at the jetty at Cul-de-sac, for fast
and frequent crossing. Flat
Island , about
250 acres on which to play Robinson
Crusoe. Baie Blanche is one of the
most beautiful beaches in the region.
Get on a shuttle at the jety of Cul-de-sac
and dedicate a complete day to the
visit of the paradise.No water or
no food are available, so think ahead!

The
souththern shore beaches

Great
Bay , this beach
stretches along the city of Philpsburg.
Recently widened and mproved, it has
for background the silhouettes of large
cruise ships. the west end is best.Little
Bay , protected
by Fort Amsterdam peninsula, this site
has been recently resplanted by Sint
Maarten's Nature Foundation. On the
east is the onlyly shore-accessible
dive site. Cay
Bay , this beautiful
solitary beach owes its serenity to
its lack of access. its only visitors
are horseriders and mountain bikers.
Nears gorgeous underwater seascapes. Pelican
cay , a
small, pleasant beach, in front of
hotels facing Simpson Bay. Maho
beach , right
at the end of the airport runway, it
is a pole of attraction during landings
and takeoffs! Do not leave anything
on the beach in the axis of the track,
as beach umbrellas, towels and bags regulary
end up in the sea... Mullet
bay bordering
the golf course, a magnificent beach.
When the swell is from the north, it
becomes a surfer's spot. Cupecoy ,
a succession of small beaches which
form and disappear with the quiks of
the sea, at the foot of ochre-colored
cliffs. The west end is managed. Baie
longue , the longest
beach on the island, it spreads from
the cliff at the Samanna to la Pointe
des Canonniers. In spite of a few enclosure
walls, it keeps a lot of charm.

Orient
bay ,the most
popular beach on the island, often
called "Saint-Tropez of the Caribbean".
Perfectly equiped, it offers a wide
variety of beach restaurantsand
boutiques, as well as the complete
range of desirable water sport, from
parasailing to sailing school. Le
Galion , a family
beach bordering a very pleasant, well-protected
strech of water. Restaurant and watersports
centers. Baie
de l'embouchure ,
a long sand
strip linking le Galion and l'Etang
aux poissons, between the atlantic
Ocean and the mangrove swamp. a good
picnic site favored by wind and kite-surfers. Baie
lucas , its exposure
to the swells and wind make it inhospitable
to regular swimmers, but its cayes
make it an snorkelling site. Dawn
beach ,
a gorgeous, uncrowded beach, lies on
Oyster Pond's
Atlantic side; several restaurants
are nearly. Guana
bay ,
a secluded beach, facing the islands
of St Barth
fairly sizeable rolling waves make
it a favorite of body-borders. Black
bay , less
than an hour's walk from guana bay,
on a
beautiful coastal pach; it offers no
beaches, fust volcanic rock, but one
can't help adding this magnificent
natural swimming pool to the list of
the best swimming sites in Sint-Maarten?
